BOVEDA, MUMBAI (ANDHERI WEST)

For all those who thought money can buy happiness, were partially right until the 8th of November, 2016. Now money can still buy happiness but only in legal tender, which is scarcely available. Here is our guide to get over the demonetisation debacle.

  1. Take a cab to Boveda Bistro in Andheri on Sunday morning/afternnon
  2. Ask for the Sunday brunch
  3. Engage yourself in the delectable food and drinks
  4. Pay by card & leave

Wasn’t that simple!

We had a chance indulge in their Sunday brunch and here is the tale!

FROM THE DESIGNERS PERSPECTIVE!

Situated at a happening by- lane of Andheri amongst other multiple joints, Boveda is a place for all moods and age groups. This place is dark even during the day to give an air of a pub. The interiors are tastefully done with chesterfield leather sofas at the entrance with low heighted tables, regular and high counter tables span the rest of the space. The seating is comfortable. The raw brick walls are painted white to give it an unfinished rugged look. The open ceiling, wooden lights behind the long bar counter and an on wheels vehicle style salad bar brings our more of the industrial look. There is also an outer seating area that is covered from the top and is equally made well but most of the crowd wants to avoid the exteriors especially during brunch hours considering the hot and humid weather of Mumbai. All in all the feel of the place is very welcoming.

DRINK IT BABY!

Masalatini was a very refreshing drink with a pleasant hint of ginger. It is a light green coloured virgin drink served in a Martini glass with a dash of lime. We loved this drink and it is a must try here.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4aa8

Double Melon Twist was an incredible combination of muskmelon and watermelon. It had freshly squeezed melon juice. Both flavours were standing out well and speaking for themselves. The drink has natural sourness of muskmelon and sweetness of watermelon without any additional sugar induced which made the drink even more special.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4ac0

Caprioska was a well-blended drink with freshness from mint leaves. The sweet and sour flavour was well balanced. They probably forgot to take care of the abundant lemon seeds.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4ac1

FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD!

We were first presented a variety of breads that were freshly baked and super soft. All the breads had a very pleasant aroma and taste. The common quality amongst all breads was freshness and we loved it. Pita bread was also served with a very palatable hummus dip. There were other dips too that compliment with breads well.

Next arrived Minestrone Soup, a tomato-based soup with chopped carrots, mushrooms, yellow & green zucchini, onions, basil, parmesan cheese and pasta. The soup was an overload of veggies seemed like a bowl full of health. The veggies were cut in appropriate sizes and were freshly cooked. The soup has perfect mild flavours and was slightly sour. Pesto Primvera Pizza is a thin crust pizza placed on a wooden base and is topped with aubergine, zucchini, bell peppers, green pesto and tomato sauce. We were not fans of this creation. Aubergine is the last thing we would want on our pizza and the combination failed to create magic.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4abe

Barbeque Mushrooms were smoked and marinated in sweetish barbeque sauce. The barbeque sauce was not very impressive and could not enhance the flavour of mushrooms. Barbeque Cottage Cheese was sour, spongy and inappropriately marinated. We passed this one.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4ac3

Herbed Potatoes was another disappointing dish where baby potatoes were just boiled and slightly flavoured with herbs before serving us. This dish had nothing exceptional in fact it was not even satiable. The potatoes were tasteless and lacked any seasoning or even flavour of herbs. We sent this one back.

Aglio Oglio was spaghetti tossed in olives, basil, black pepper and red chillies. It was aptly seasoned, was a little spicy with the use of red chillies and black pepper but we loved the spice. Generous amount of garlic made the dish even more desirable.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4ac6

Penne in pink sauce was not a mentionable dish. It lacked salt and had a higher proportion of red sauce, misbalancing the dish to the sour side.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4ac9

Vegetable Burger was served along with wedges that were stars of the dish. They were appropriately fried and flavoured. Apart from the wedges the burger did no good to our palette. Passed this one too.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4ad1

SWEET TOOTH!

There is nothing exceptional for the people with sweet tooth. They only serve some cup cakes which are average.unadjustednonraw_thumb_4ad3

How May I Help You!

The service was fast in the beginning and got relaxed as we progressed in our meal. I guess most people want a relaxed Sunday brunch and choose to spend some hours at a buffet chitchatting with their companions so this works. The staff is on toes at all times and is efficient to the most part.

Hawk Eye View!

Boveda is a cozy place which can be shelter to all your moods. Their drinks are appreciable but food needs to be picked carefully. The servers are well spoken and efficient.
