Like some gentlemen said, life is a journey, a journey from a cradle to the grave. Each individual chooses how they wish to travel this distance and make most of life. My friend Mrugank beats the odds to be a successful chef at Trident and Vartika with all her versatility chooses to act after a Masters degree in marketing. Hannan chooses to quit his stable corporate job and leave for a solo backpacking trip to Europe while Dheerj translates his passion for riding to create his group called Brotherhood of Tourers who ride from Mumbai to Ladakh and beyond. What inspires them to do this is only for them to answer but I am sure of one thing, they have made beautiful memories on the go.
Speaking of travelling the journey of life you sure need to eat on the way. Now there are abundant options for that but not many that are travel inspired. Reise – All Day Bar & Kitchen located inside Oriental Aster hotel is a travel inspired bar and we were there for a review while they are still in thir gestation period.
FROM THE DESIGNERS PERSPECTIVE!
This cozy restaurant is located inside the Oriental Aster hotel and sports travel inspired interiors. There are two sections that almost stand independent of each other. The walls have unconventional artefacts places in niches like telescopes, books, medals, a wall street bull miniature and interesting paintings. The walls of the bar have travel stamps of multiple locations. Wooden tables with upholstered chairs on one side and leather sofa on the other make up for a comfortable dining space. They had a band perform this given evening and we had a amazing time with the good music.
DRINK IT BABY!
The most appropriate mixes raise ones mood and the mocktails here are sure to lift you up. The Pina colada was very amusingly served in a freshly scooped out pineapple. Prepared with fresh pineapple juice it was refreshing. We loved the presentation as well as the drink.
Amongst the other mocktails we had were Mojito and and Blue sea. The Mojito was loaded with fresh mint leaves and ice. Blue sea was a mix of blue curacao, sprite and lime. Both the drinks tasted average.
FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD!
Amongst the finger food we fell in love with the tandoori mushrooms called the Kundan Tara. This dish was served on a platter wherein the stuffed mushrooms were placed on an Indian bread accompanied with fryums, salad and four kinds of dips. The mushrooms are deliciously stuffed with correct amount of spices and cooked to perfection. Must try!
They are quite a few interesting combinations like Videshi khichdi and various pasta tweaks with green Thai curry and Makhani sauce. They have tried to be innovative but are yet to rise on the taste quotient.
We ordered few of their other preparations like Crystal veg dimsums and DIY Chopper. The dimsums had a thin cover and were enclosed with finely chopped veggies. The flavours were well balanced.
We ordered our DIY chopper in a combination of rice and noodles. It was tossed in a schezwan based gravy and tasted average.
We were served Gulab jamun with rabdi. This one is meant for those who like their desserts to be really sweet. The Gulab Jamuns were a little more harder than they should be while the rabdi was nice.
HOW MAY I HELP YOU!
The service was a little slow and repeated reminders were required. Our hungry stomachs had to wait too long for food. Multiple requests to raise the air conditioning temperature fell on deaf ears. We were not very happy with the service.
HAWK EYE VIEW!
The ambience of the place is cozy and lively. A small vertical space has been planned well and the décor is pleasing. The food has a few hits and many misses. Try to opt for stereotype dishes unless you are open to experiments. Staff need some more experience to handle a full house.
