ZooBar, Mumbai (Vile Parle West)

The sun had risen to the extreme heights of the sky and Mogli sat at the mouth of his cave next to mother wolf thinking of how Bagheera had saved his life from the cunning Shere Khan by paying the price of a bull. Mogli was a part of the free people and choose to run with the wolf pack. He had learnt that the jungle was a place for the beings that could overpower the weak or outsmart the strong and Baloo had very well taught him to do both. There was one beast that every animal in the jungle was afraid of, Man. For man would capture them and either kill or cage. All the animals would see dignity in death than the cage and this is what the management at Zoobar also propagates. Zoobar is a pet friendly place (with a menu in place) and believes in caging only dead (read food).

And what a Friday night it was! Great drinks, good food, awesome music! Just the way we would like to spend the beginning of a weekend.

From the designers perspective!

With interior and exterior seating areas the exteriors is where you can take your pets. Both the areas are done pretty well with dim lighting & thoughtful furniture that gives the place a cool resto-pub vibe. Uniquely picked decoratives and artefacts throw their weight around the name of the place. It’s that place where we would love to hang out with our pals.

Drink it baby!

Zoobar is one of those places that pushes us to reconsider our aversion towards alcohol. They serve a number of cocktails that we did not try but of the mocktails that we did left us asking for more. Tried the Bang Bang, Apple doctor, Lemongrass lychee cooler and Mango basil cracker. All the mocktails were spun pretty well with minute attention to flavours.

For the love of food!

Now we went to them specifically for the beer and burger festival. Ironically we never lifted our mug but the burgers is what kept us in the game. Tried four of their vegetarian burgers namely the Double Trouble Cottage Cheese burger, Wild Forest Mushroom burger, Quinoa & Cilantro Falafel burger and Oven Roasted Beetroot & Carrot burger.

Keeping sync with their philosophy, the burgers are brought to the table with a cage covering and you can check out the beauties behind the bars. All burgers are served with chips and salad accompaniments. We personally liked the Double Trouble Cottage Cheese burger the best of all.

Mere Zoobar wali maggi! Few are places in Mumbai that serve maggi and being Maggi fanatics we were thrilled. There were two veg variants that we ordered but had the chance to only try the Green peas, baked beans & roasted garlic maggi as the Cheese maggi that came to the table vanished in thin air.

How may I help you?

Owner’s passion always translates into positive routines at restaurants and same is the case with Zoobar. The staff is fairly prompt and knowledgeable about the servings. There wasn’t any trouble that we faced at the restaurant.

Hawk eye view!

It was a Friday well spent! You would not ask for more with good music, drinks, food and an amazing crowd.

Ambiance: 4.5/5
