Gluttony is considered one of the seven deadly sins by the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Gregory described five different ways by which one can commit the sin of gluttony. I have been exploring the limits of gluttony by trying to cherish the predefined sinning ways. I am sure Jesus would forgive me; after all, he loves me too.
This one time at Bandra we ate before the time of dinner to satisfy our palate and indulge in the endeavors of Chinese cuisine at Emprino. Emprino is located right in the famed food lane at Bandra’s Carter road amongst a wide array of other joints (even Chinese cuisine). So how do they stand out?
Emprino have explored the concept of food tasting before ordering, to let the customers choose from their available range of sauces. They even have a podium counter placed outside their little sit in place to woo the passerby’s and let them try a bite of the food before they choose to enter or order. I like and appreciate this concept as it lets you choose by experience and also that I am generally confused between dishes (I want to try all, another sin) and it lets me make a conscious choice.
The joint has a small interior sitting space with bar stools put across elevated counters on the periphery. The walls are clad with prints and they have quite different artifacts to do the place.
I had a chance to speak to the owners who were supposedly having a business meeting while we entered. The owner’s greeted us and took tab of what we were looking to order. They were generous to share their food and restaurant concepts with us and also their vision to expand from the restaurant to a chain.
Tried their chill garlic sauce and three smoked pepper sauce before ordering the latter. The three smoked pepper sauce did not taste very spicy at the first bite but it had a nasty after effect on the tongue. Nice flavor, good to taste. They used quite a few exotic veggies along with a combination of rice and thin noodles. I enquired if they used Msg in the food as I felt a hint of it and they informed us of its presence in some of their sauces but no direct use. Possibly, the only direct area of improvement.
They are priced very lightly for the portions they serve. I would like to visit them with a developed appetite for trying a few more dishes.
