Sichuan House, Mumbai (Kurla West)

It is only a couple of times in life (after marriage) I have lived the true meaning of the phrase “shop till you drop” this was one of such days. Phoenix Market City (PMC) is undisputedly the largest mall in Mumbai. An entire day of shopping at PMC left me tired and famished. Then happened Sichuan House.

After inspecting a couple of restaurants near the food court, we remembered seeing a banner of Sichuan house and called them to assure they were open. After a confirmation we walked to them. We were the first customers for the evening.

The place is done very well with sofa seating along the periphery and wooden tables with cushioned chairs in the rest of the area. With respect to the décor, they are ideal for couples or small families with candle lit ambiance and also large group friendly with the large seating area (not by food quantities).

Very few times it happens that I ask for a redbull with a dash of lime and some grenadine syrup and the waiter understands it in the first go. They did not have any doubt of what I was asking for. Just the way I like it.

The manchow soup was rich in flavor and texture with Finely chopped vegetables garnished with coriander leaf. It was served in a conventional bowl with a non-conventional platter under it. Something I could again go back for.

Veg Manchurian dry was served just after the soup and the flavor of the dish was pretty nice but the Manchurian balls were fried when the oil was not hot enough giving them a stink and taste of raw oil. Also the Manchurian balls were harder than they ideally should have been. We complained and they were quick to give and positive response by asking us to choose another starter. No questions asked, no escalations, no delays. The most ideal way to respond to a complaint.

Ordered for paneer chilli and they did not make us wait long. Paneer was soft, non grainy and fine in texture. It was cooked well, good taste, nice flavor.

Chili garlic noodles were few of the nicest I have had. They used thin noodles cooked with cabbage (lattice), bell peppers and chili garlic sauce. Only wish they increase the quantity per portion, as it was lesser than any Chinese restaurant would generally serve. But this dish will make me return to them when I am in the vicinity.
